We believe the risks break down into several main categories:
External threats: Kidnapping is endemic throughout Haiti and poses a high risk, gang members, ex-military and Police, Political and business rivals, disgruntled ex-employees, and other opportunists are not just pursuing obvious high value targets. Anyone is fair game due to the dismal economic situation in many areas. While the groups that pose a threat are diverse, they are all likely to use the same tools in deliberately targeting us and they may also try to induce members of staff to supply confidential information or access or even use stolen material or other means to blackmail, embarrass or damage our client interests. We need to protect our assets as well as client assets with robust physical and electronic security, information security (Infosec) and operational security protocols (Opsec.).
